En la imagen: El Presidente Iliescu de Rumania inaugura un jardín de juegos para 500 huérfanos que Michael financió.  Además hizo parte a su fundación "Heal the world" (Salvemos el mundo).

• En 1992, mi padre, John Croasdale, recibió una llamada de un hombre que deseaba financiar la construcción de un patio de juegos para un gran orfanato en Bucharest, Rumania, para 500 niños.  Este sería el mayor aporte jamás recibido para construir un jardín de juegos; el hombre no dijo su nombre, pero la construcción comenzó y los diseñadores e instaladores se pusieron a trabajar.  Las piezas se construyeron en las fábricas y luego se enviaron en un lote masivo a Rumania.  Seis personas llegaron a Bucharest, cuando descubrieron que Michael Jackson era el cliente misterioso, quien deseaba que este proyecto fuera parte de su fundación "Heal the world".  Cuando Michael inauguró el patio de juegos, mi madre se las ingenió para tomarle una foto, con ambos pulgares arriba hacia ella y las otras personas, para dar las gracias.

In 1992, my Dad, John Croasdale, received a phone call from a man who wanted Playdale to build a playground for a big orphanage in Bucharest, Romania, for 500 children. That was the furthest Playdale had ever been to build a playground, the man did not say who wanted the playground to be built, so the designers and installers got to work, they built the playground in the factories and sent it in a massive lorry to Romania, six people went along too, when they arrived in Bucharest, they discovered that Michael Jackson was the mystery client, and he wanted the playground for his ‘Heal the World’ foundation. When Michael opened the playground, my mum managed to take a photo of him, sticking his thumbs up at her and the other people to say thank you.

"Vi a este pequeño niño (en el hospital de Budapest, Hungría), su nombre era Farkas. El estaba enfermo. Su cara tenía un tono verde. Pero tenía un brillo en sus ojos. “I saw this little kid (at a hospital in Budapest, Hungary), his name was Farkas. He was very sick. He was green in the face. But he had this glow, this sparkle in his eye. I asked his nurse, “What’s wrong with this kid?” She said that he needs a liver. So I said, “Does that mean he’s gonna die?” She said, “Yes, he’s gonna die unless he gets a liver”. I said, I’m not gonna let him die. This sweet, sweet angel. No matter what it takes, I’m gonna find a liver for him. So I sent my (“Heal The World”) organization around the world. We went all over the place and it took a long time. And I said, I’m not giving up. I’m not going to have the child die. I was so happy when I got a phone call. They told me, “We’ve found a liver!” And he has his life. I’m so proud that I could help him. God bless him. I love you, Farkas.”

"Mi hija, Angela, estaba en el hospital con lesiones en la cabeza después de haber sido atropellada por un automovil. Un día nos dijo una de las enfermeras que Michael Jackson iba a venir de visita. Tuvimos que guardar el secreto, para que el hospital no fuera abrumado con fans. Hubo una ráfaga grande de gente, sus asistentes repartieron camisetas y él firmó ejemplares de su álbum Bad a todos en el lugar. Entonces él caminó alrededor y habló con los pacientes. The girl in the photo is named Angela, and it was taken in 1987. This is her mother’s recounting of the day:

"My daughter, Angela, was in hospital with head injuries after being hit by a car. One day we were told by the nurses that Michael Jackson was coming to visit. We had to keep it a secret, so the hospital wasn’t overwhelmed with fans. There was a big flurry, as his assistants handed out T-shirts and signed copies of his Bad album to everyone on the ward. Then he just walked around and talked to the patients. […] I said hello. He said he was pleased to meet me. I was gobsmacked. He was very gentle and seemed shy. I got the sense he had a deep love for children, especially those who’d been hurt.

Then he crouched down and said “Hello, Angela.” She couldn’t talk, because she’d just come out of a coma, but she started smiling. After that day, she started to get better. I think of him as an inspiration. We’d been having a terrible time – Angela was in hospital and I’d been ringing Lifeline to keep myself together, but he was a total inspiration for the whole ward. I thought, Thank God for sending him. He just had a presence about him – this great empathy with people who needed to get better. Now, Angela is 25, at university and full of life. There was another boy on the ward who was about 15 and was a huge fan. After Michael’s visit, he started getting better too. His mom thought it was a miracle. I believe many of the children got better after meeting him. I think people should know about this side of Michael. I’ve never believed he was anything but a good person".

Michael visita al pequeño de 12 años, David Rothenburg (Dave Dave). Su padre lo quemó gravemente en un acto de venganza en contra de la madre del menor. Michael y David se conocieron cuando él tenía alrededor de 7 años. Su amistad continuó por años.

Michael visits 12-year-old David Rothenburg (Dave Dave). His father had set him on fire in an act of revenge against his former wife. Michael and David met when David was around 7 years old and continued a friendship for years.

“It was quite an amazing experience. There was a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and there was Michael. Our relationship started with a hug. A hug that never ended throughout the years.”

“He has been my friend throughout everything that I’ve been through. And he’s my only friend that I can say that’s been there for me always. He’s really had an impact on my life – not because he is a celebrity. Because he’s been through a kind of the same thing as I’ve been through. ….He was a great person. He never hurt a soul and I’m happy to have been his friend all these years. Michael offered a lot of emotional support for me. Michael was there for me whenever I needed to talk to him. He opened up Neverland to me as a means to get away. Metaphorically he was always like a father that I never had.”

Su amor por los niños / His love for the children

Michael Jackson siempre se sintió identificado con los niños, incluso en su adultez, debido a la difícil infancia que le tocó vivir. Quiso ser como ellos y se identificó con sus problemas, por ello lucho durante su vida para ayudar aquellos más desvalidos. En sus propias palabras:

"Dedico mucho de mi tiempo libre, en California o cuando estoy de viaje, visitando hospitales de niños. Me hace muy feliz saber que puedo iluminar un día de aquellos niños, simplemente apareciendo y conversando con ellos, escuchando lo que tienen que decir, haciéndoles sentir mejor. Es muy triste para los niños estar enfermos. Más que nadie, ellos no merecen eso. Ellos muchas veces, ni siquiera pueden entender que les está pasando. Esto hace que mi corazón se retuerza. Cuando estoy con ellos, sólo deseo abrazarlos y hacer lo mejor que puedo, para ellos. Algunas veces, niños enfermos me visitan en mi casa, o en los hoteles donde me hospedo. Algunos padres se mantienen en contacto conmigo y me preguntan si sus hijos pueden visitarme por algunos minutos. Algunas veces cuando estoy con ellos, logro entender mejor lo que para mi madre fue padecer de polio. La vida es muy preciosa y muy corta para no buscar y tocar las personas que podamos."

Para él, los niños siempre fueron su inspiración y lo más sagrado en su vida. Más allá de su experiencia como padre, en la que es recordado como un papá cariñoso y dedicado, los niños de todo el mundo siempre ocuparon el lugar más importante en su corazón y quehacer. Rescatamos aquí otra cita suya, respecto a su amor por los niños:

"No hay nada más espiritual y puro para mi que los niños, y yo no puedo vivir sin ellos. Si me dices ahora: "Michael, tú no puedes volver a ver a ningún niño". Me podría matar. Te lo juro, porque no tengo ninguna otra razón para vivir. Así es. Honestamente."

Para los niños, dedicó canciones como: We are the world (Nosotros somos el mundo), Heal the World (Sanemos el mundo) y The lost Children (Los niños perdidos). En su vida, ayudó a muchas fundaciones de beneficencia, creando también las suyas propias. Michael Jackson always identified himself with children, even in adulthood, due to the difficult childhood he had. He wanted to be like them and he felt identified with their problems, so he fight on his whole life to help those most vulnerable ones. In his own words:

"I spend a lot of free time, on California and when I'm traveling, visiting children's hospitals. It makes me so happy to be able to brighten those kids' day just by showing up and talking with them, listening to what they have to say and making them feel better. It's so sad for children to have to get sick. More than anyone else, kids don't deserve that. They often can't even understand what's wrong with them. It makes my heart twist. When I'm with them, I just want to hug them, and make it all better for them. Sometimes sick children will visit me at home or in my hotel rooms of the road. A parents will get in touch with me and ask if their child can visit with me for a few minutes. Sometimes, when I'm with them I feel I understand better what my mother must have gone through with her polio. Life is too precious and too short not to reach out and touch the people we can".

For him, children have been always his inspiration and the most sacred in his life. Beyond his experience as a parent, which is remembered as a loving father and devoted, children around the world always occupied the most important place in his heart and doing. We rescued here another quote of him, about their love for children:

"There is nothing more pure and spiritual to me than children, and I cannot live without them. If you told me right now, "Michael, you can never see another child", I would kill myself. I swear to you, I would because I have nothing else to live for. That's it. Honestly."

For children, he create songs like: We are the world, Heal the World, and The Lost Children. In his life he helped many charitable foundations, also creating their own. ¡No lo mates! / Don't Kill it!

En un concierto, Michael Jackson descubrió un pequeño insecto en el piso del escenario, por casualidad. Lo primero que atinó a hacer fue llamar a sus guardias de seguridad para que nadie lo aplastara sin querer. Cuando el guardia se acercó para retirar el insecto del lugar, el cantante le dio instrucciones precisas: ¡No lo mates!.

Este vídeo, muestra esta escena, inesperada, donde Michael Jackson demuestra nuevamente su calidad humana. Todo ser vivo por insignificante que parezca merece nuestra atención y cuidado.

At a concert, Michael Jackson spotted a tiny insect in the stage floor by accident. The first thing he managed to do was call their security guards, so no one accidentally crushed with it. When the guard came to remove the bug, the singer gave him specific instructions: Don't kill it!.

This video shows the scene, unexpected, where Michael Jackson once again demonstrates his human qualities. All living matter how insignificant it may seem, deserves our attention and care.

I want you to come to the show. I am going to give you this jacket that I wore in one of my videos." His eyes lit up and he said: "You are gonna GIVE it to me?" But maybe he was too close to heaven, because when I came to his town, he had already died, and they had buried him in the glove and jacket. He was just 10 years old. God knows, I know, that he tried his best to hold on. But at least when he died, he knew that he was loved, not only by his parents, but even by me, a near stranger, I also loved him. And with all of that love he knew that he didn't come into this world alone, and he certainly didn't leave it alone."

Así como en 1985, Michael Jackson solicitó la colaboración de varios artistas para desarrollar la canción We are the world, con el propósito de reunir fondos para el continente africano, en el año 2001, el artista volvió a realizar la misma idea, pero con el fin de ayudar económicamente a las víctimas del ataque aéreo ocurrido en New York el 11 de septiembre del 2001.

El sencillo se tituló "What more can I give" (Todo para ti, en español), y lamentablemente nunca se editó oficialmente por conflictos que el artista tuvo con su sello. Sin importar lo anterior, Michael Jackson y los artistas que participaron en la creación de la canción ( Mariah Carey, Céline Dion, Tom Petty, Reba McEntire, Ricky Martin, Carlos Santana, Beyoncé Knowles (Destiny's Child), Nick Carter (Backstreet Boys), Aaron Carter, Mya, Luis Miguel, Gloria Estefan, Shawn Stockman (Boyz II Men), Shakira, Usher, Brian McKnight, Julio Iglesias, Luther Vandross, John Secada, Billy Gilman, Alejandro Sanz, Christian Castro, Olga Tañón, Anastacia, Juan Gabriel, Thalía, Ziggy Marley y 3LW.), desarrollaron un evento en vivo para recaudar fondos, con el propósito establecido.




Just like in 1985, Michael Jackson asked for the collaboration of several artists to develop the song We Are the World, in order to raise funds for the African continent, in 2001, the artist returned to perform the same idea but with the purpose of help financially the victims of the air strike happened in New York on 11 September 2001.

The single was entitled "What More Can I Give" (Todo para ti, in Spanish), and unfortunately was never released officially by conflicts that the artist had with his label. A pesar que la prensa siempre prefirió cubrir otro tipo de noticias respecto a la vida de Michael Jackson, el artista dedicó más de veinte años a realizar actividades humanitarias. Gustaba de visitar hospitales en los distintos países donde actuó para compartir con los que sufren, realizaba extraordinarias donaciones de fondos a favor de instituciones benéficas, se hizo cargo de miles de tratamientos contra el cancer para niños, creó instituciones benéficas propias (Heal the World) y cumplió el sueño de muchos pequeños a través de la fundación make a wish. Although the press always preferred to cover other news regarding the life of Michael Jackson, the artist spent more than twenty years to carry out humanitarian activities.
