"...Por ello, quisiera proponer esta noche, que se instaure en cada hogar una Declaración Universal de Derechos del Niño, los cuales se basan en los siguientes principios:

1. El derecho a ser amado, sin tener que ganarlo

2. El derecho a ser protegidos, sin tener que merecerlo

3. El derecho a sentirse valioso, incluso si usted llegó al mundo sin nada

4. El derecho a ser escuchado sin tener que ser interesante

5. El derecho a la lectura de un cuento antes de dormir, sin tener que competir con las noticias de la noche

6. El derecho a una educación, sin tener que esquivar las balas en las escuelas

7. El derecho a ser considerado como adorable - (incluso si tiene una cara que sólo una madre podría amar).

Amigos, el fundamento de todo conocimiento humano, el principio de la conciencia humana, debe ser que todos y cada uno de nosotros somos objeto de amor. Antes de saber si tendremos el pelo rojo o marrón, antes de saber si usted será negro o blanco, antes de saber de qué religión será parte, usted tiene que saber que es amado."

1. The right to be loved without having to earn it

2. The right to be protected, without having to deserve it

3. The right to feel valuable, even if you came into the world with nothing

4. The right to be listened to without having to be interesting

5. The right to be read a bedtime story, without having to compete with the evening news

6. The right to an education without having to dodge bullets at schools

7. The right to be thought of as adorable - (even if you have a face that only a mother could love).

Friends, the foundation of all human knowledge, the beginning of human consciousness, must be that each and every one of us is an object of love. Before you know if you have red hair or brown, before you know if you are black or white, before you know of what religion you are a part, you have to know that you are loved."
